Native Plants and Animals

Native trees and shrubs help regulate water temperatures for fish and other aquatic life. Their fallen leaves and branches help create beneficial environments for these animals to live and reproduce.

Native plants support a vital link in the food web, providing food to local aquatic insects, bees and butterflies which in turn feed the many fish, birds and other animals that live here.

As native plants and animals evolve together, they naturally depend on each other for survival. Insects and animals use native plants as food sources. Likewise, these plants depend on native insects and animals for seed dispersal.

Scappoose Bay Watershed Council's Native Plant Program produces a wide variety of native plants, trees and shrubs for local creek side and wetland restoration projects.
