This kayaking tour will help educate attendees on how to identify aquatic noxious weeds that are currently threatening the health of our region’s watershed. Attendees will learn how to identify noxious weeds, as well as how to manage them. It is important to understand how these weeds cause ecological harm to the creeks, streams and tributaries that feed into the Scappoose Bay, and how the presence of these plants threaten the ecological integrity of the Columbia River. Working together, we can all become stewards and caretakers of the Scappoose Bay Watershed.
Attendees will need to provide their own kayak and plan to meet at Scappoose Bay Marina at 57420 Old Portland Rd. Warren, OR 97053. Kayak rentals are available from Next Adventure – Scappoose Bay Paddling Center (see rental page with rates – https://nextadventure.net/rentals).
There will be a short demonstration on land before kayaking toward South Scappoose Creek. The trip is expected to take three hours round trip and will sail upstream for about an hour and a half before returning to the dock.
To attend, please RSVP to Emily@scappoosebay-wc.org.
