We’re continuing to offer a Pre-Order option. New this year – an online store to place Pre-Orders. \nTo purchase native plants\, select from one of two options. Here’s how it works: \nPre-Orders: \n\nIf you Pre-Order\, you will be able to pick up plants curbside on the day of the sale.\nPre-Orders need to be placed by Saturday\, April 3 at 6:00 pm.\nFor more details and a link to the online store\, go to the Native Plant Nursery and follow the links to the Spring Sale.\n\nOn-Site Sale: \n\nWalk-ins are available on the day of the sale but will be limited to meet health guidelines. Face coverings are required.\nStaff and volunteer availability are limited this year – visit our Native Plant Nursery and go to the section on “Native Plant Resource Links” to find helpful info about Native Plants.\nThe onsite sale goes from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at our nursery\, located behind Scappoose High School. We received a $500 grant from Portland Garden Club to purchase native plants from Sauvie Island Natives\, plus wire fence screening for deer. We need help with plantings at Nob Hill Nature Park in St Helens\, OR. \nThe Scappoose Bay Watershed Council and Friends of Nob Hill Nature Park invite you to join the semi-annual volunteer work party on Saturday\, November 7\, from 1 to 4 PM. Nob Hill Nature Park is a 7-acre oak woodland overlooking the Columbia River. The Friends of NHNP have been doing restoration there since 2004. \nDress for the weather\, including rain gear if needed. Gloves\, tools\, water and wrapped snack items are provided\, but feel free to bring your own too. Masks and social distancing are required. This work party takes place rain or shine. Meet at the city’s wastewater treatment plant\, 451 Plymouth Street\, in St Helens. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Scappoose Bay Marina on Saturday\, October 24\, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am to explore and improve the nature trails and waterfront. We will start the day with a walk on the trails and identify native and invasive plants. Then the fun begins! This area is heavily used for fishing and recreation so there is lots to do. We will pick-up trash and fishing line to protect birds and fish from getting tangled. We will also work on a little weed removal along the path and waterfront as conditions allow. SUMMARY:Aquatic Noxious Weed Identification Tour
DESCRIPTION:This kayaking tour will help educate attendees on how to identify aquatic noxious weeds that are currently threatening the health of our region’s watershed. Attendees will learn how to identify noxious weeds\, as well as how to manage them. It is important to understand how these weeds cause ecological harm to the creeks\, streams and tributaries that feed into the Scappoose Bay\, and how the presence of these plants threaten the ecological integrity of the Columbia River. Working together\, we can all become stewards and caretakers of the Scappoose Bay Watershed. \nAttendees will need to provide their own kayak and plan to meet at Scappoose Bay Marina at 57420 Old Portland Rd. Warren\, OR 97053. Kayak rentals are available from Next Adventure – Scappoose Bay Paddling Center (see rental page with rates –  https://nextadventure.net/rentals). \nThere will be a short demonstration on land before kayaking toward South Scappoose Creek. SUMMARY:Plant ID Walk at Nob Hill Nature Park (St Helens\, OR)
DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Nob Hill Nature Park (NHNP) and the Native Plant Society of Oregon on Sunday\, July 12\, from 10:00-11:00am\, for an easy\, low-key stroll through Nob Hill Nature Park to view native oaks\, shrubs\, ferns and sedum. NHNP is a 6.6-acre oak woodland\, perched on a basalt bluff overlooking the Columbia River. Come visit the park and give your two cents on plants found in this lower-Columbia River ecosystem. Poison oak is found off well-maintained trails. Long pants and long sleeves are suggested. This event is on\, rain or shine. \nDirections: NHNP is about 30 miles north of Portland\, off Hwy 30\, in St Helens. Meet at city’s water treatment facility (451 Plymouth St\, St Helens\, OR 97051) across from park by 10 am.  (Allow about 45 minutes drive time from Portland.) \nComing from Portland\, take Hwy 30 north\, past Sauvie Island and Scappoose. At the WalMart in St Helens\, turn right on Gable Road\, going toward the river. Bear right on Plymouth Street and stay right\, to the water treatment plant on right. There is plenty of easy parking across from the park’s main entrance. (For day of event\, call 503-349-8586.)  A plant list is available by request by calling trip leader\, Caroline Skinner in advance at 503-248-9719. The event is free and open to the public.
