SUMMARY:Nob Hill Work Party
DESCRIPTION:Help maintain trails and remove lunaria and blackberry plants at Nob Hill Nature Park in St. Helens\, Oregon. The Scappoose Bay Watershed Council and Friends of Nob Hill Nature Park (NHNP) invite you to join the Fall (semi-annual) volunteer work party on Saturday\, November 4\, from 1 to 4 p.m. Nob Hill Park is an oak woodland overlooking the Columbia River. \nPlease bring your own water and snack items. Wear long-sleeve tops\, long pants and work boots because there is poison oak at the park. Dress in layers\, including rain gear if needed. This work party takes place rain or shine. \nMeet at 1 p.m. at the City’s wastewater treatment facility at 451 Plymouth Street. After sign-in\, there will be a short park tour before work starts. \nPre-registration is requested by Friday\, November 3 by calling Scappoose Bay Watershed Council at 503-397-7904. Or you can e-mail pat@scappoosebay-wc.org. This work party is suggested for age 10 and up. \nDirections: From Portland\, take Highway 30 north\, going toward Astoria. At the Wal-Mart in St. Helens\, turn right onto Gable Road. Go toward the river. Bear right onto Plymouth Street\, and continue bearing right until you see the water treatment facility on the right. DESCRIPTION:If you live in Portland or Scappoose near a waterway (river or canal\, e.g.)\, you’re invited to join us for a valuable workshop on how to prevent erosion of your riverbanks! \nThis winter we’ve experienced some of the heaviest rainfall on record in the greater Portland area and you’ve probably already seen a lot of soil erosion. Some landowners in Portland and Scappoose have seen slope failures and landslides and streambank sloughing. \nLearn why and how erosion happens and what you can do to protect your land! \nSpeakers will include a geomorphologist from the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife\, a streamside restoration specialist from your local Soil & Water Conservation District\, and someone from your local watershed council. \nWorkshop is from 7pm-9pm. DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Nob Hill Nature Park and the Native Plant Society of Oregon for an easy\, site low-key stroll through Nob Hill Nature Park to view trillium and fawn lily in an area currently undergoing restoration. NHNP is a small oak woodland\, perched on a basalt bluff overlooking the Columbia River. Visit the park and give your two cents on plants found in this lower-Columbia River ecosystem. Poison oak is found off well-maintained trails so long pants and long sleeves are suggested. This event is on\, rain or shine. \nNHNP can be accessed from Plymouth Street. The trailhead is located across from the City’s wastewater treatment plant. There is plenty of easy parking across from the park’s main entrance.
